Dapitan City lines up activities to commemorate Rizal's 153rd birthday

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur, (June 18, MPF News) -- The city government of Dapitan in the nearby Zamboanga del Norte province has lined up several activities to commemorate the 153rd birthday of the country’s national hero Dr. Jose Rizal on June 19.

Dapitan City Tourism Officer Apple Marie Agolong said the activities will start at 4 a.m. of June 19 with a “Diana” around the city by the city’s Executive Band.

Agolong said it will be followed by ZUMBA Warm-up at the Punto del Desembarco at 5-5:30 a.m. and then the fun run dubbed as “Takbo Pepe Takbo” from 5:30-7 a.m. The starting point will be still at the Punto del Desembarco de Rizal in Barangay Sta. Cruz.

The fun run will have three categories and these are: three-kilometer; five-kilometer; and, 10-kilometer.

The kick-off launching of Climate Change Advocacy campaign postpone

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur (June 10, MPF News) – The National Kick-off launching of Climate Change Advocacy Campaign today to be jointly undertaking by the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) was postponed, PIA Official said.

PIA Regional Director Noemi Edaga said Tuesday the postponement of activities was due to the non-availability of two key officials from the DENR and PIA today.

Edaga also said that earlier DENR Secretary Ramon J.P. Paje requested the postponement of the activities because of his some important scheduled appointments and also of the non-availability of Presidential Communications Operations Secretary Herminio B. Coloma Jr.

DENR marks 27th founding anniversary with coastal clean-up in Zamboanga del Sur




PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur, June 10 (PNA) -– The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) marked its 27th founding anniversary Tuesday with a coastal clean-up in Zamboanga del Sur.


DENR regional public affairs officer Rosevirico Tan said the anniversary celebration started with a mass attended by all of the employees at the San Jose Parish Church in this city.

After the mass, Tan said they motored to the Municipality of Tukuran, 25 kilometers from here, where they conducted coastal clean-up.

Tan said DENR Regional Executive Director Arleigh Adorable led the coastal clean-up activity with the participation of Tukuran municipal government, civil society organizations and students.

Zamsureco-1 shuts down power for corrective maintenance

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur, June 10 (PNA) -– The power service was shut down Tuesday for nine hours in 15 towns in this city which are being served by the Zamboanga del Sur Electric Cooperative-1 (Zamsureco-1).

Zamsureco-1 information officer Liberal Cabatcha said the power interruption from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday paved the way for transmission line corrective maintenance by the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP).

Cabatcha said the transmission line corrective maintenance was undertaken in the municipalities of Aurora, Labangan and Tukuran, this province.

Aside from Aurora, Labangan and Tukuran municipalities, the other towns affected by the nine-hour brownout were the following: Dumalinao, Guipos, San Pablo, Tigbao, Lapuyan, Margosatubig, San Miguel, Vincenzo Sagun, Dimataling, Dinas, Pitogo, Tabina, and this city.

Consumers were advised to take all necessary measures to protect their appliances and electrical equipment.

The Zamsureco-1 serves this city and 24 of the 26 towns of this province with 69,857 member-consumers. (PNA)

13 slot machines seized in Zamboanga Del Norte




PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur, June 9 (PNA) -- The police have confiscated 13 units of slot machines in its anti-gambling campaign in the nearby province of Zamboanga del Norte, an official here said Monday.

Zamboanga del Norte police director Senior Supt. James Mejia said the slots machines were confiscated over the weekend through a joint operations by the police stations in Tampilisan and Liloy towns with the support of the Provincial Intelligence Branch.

Mejia said the slot machines were confiscated in the barangays (villages) of Lawis, Baybay, and Communal, in Liloy town and Sto. Niño, and Poblacion in Tampilisan municipality.

He said operation of these slot machines is a violation of Presidential Decree 1602 as amended by Republic Act 9287, an act increasing the penalties for illegal numbers games, amending certain provisions of P.D. 1602 and for other purposes.

He said the confiscation of the slots machines is also in line with the all-out war declared by Zamboanga del Norte Gov. Roberto Uy against all forms of illegal gambling in the province.

NPA finance staff falls in Zamboanga del Sur

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur, June 9 (PNA) -- Combined police and military operatives arrested on Sunday an amazon of the New People’s Army (NPA) charged with rebellion in the nearby town of Aurora in this province, a top police official announced Monday.

Provincial police director Senior Supt. Sofronio Ecaldre identified the arrested NPA amazon as Mari Muñoz, a finance staff of the NPA’s Western Mindanao Revolutionary People's Command.

He said Muñoz is facing rebellion charges before a Court in this city and has a standing warrant of arrest without recommended bail.

He said Muñoz is temporarily detained at the Aurora Police Station. (PNA)
